I am in favor of curbing curtailing and shutting down "madame" type houses where they exist, but not by mullah vigilante action.

This is exactly how Talibans started. If you let this happen, next thing you know, the same mullahs will be slapping and hitting our own mothers and sisters for wearing colorful socks.

The mullah should NEVER be enabled to take law into his/her own hands. NEVER.

The problem with tahmed saheb, my time-honoured and good friend who is never offensive or obnoxious quite unlike most on Chowk, is that he has very black and white superficial views and never scratches even an inch beneath the surface.

For example, re the Arab Governments, he makes no attempt to see how many of these rulers are popular within their own countries for not supporting Palestinians, and how many of the same Arabs are fighting on the side of Muslim resistances around the world. How Anwer Sadat was killed and how King Abdullah of Saudia proposed and committed to the only working solution of the Palestinian problem which is still on the table. If the free oil between 1998 and 2004 after nuke test, and the $300 million cash just last week to partly off-set increased oil prices was not "hosla afzai" of the Pakistani people, what was it? If musharraf's arm was twisted to allow NS back to have a level playing field for elections was not concern for stability in Pakistan, what was it? Saudia of-course cannot come out in support of lawyers or GEO TV, nor their people will hold demonstrations. They have enough issues of their own. Were there any public demonstrations for these causes in the democracy/freedom loving USA and Europe except those by Overseas Pakistanis themselves? It is extremely naive to expect there should have been.

Re Madam Shameem, tahmed saheb will again support the human rights of a prostitute-ring running woman, but not of those employment-seeking girls who were lured by her through newspaper ads and then promised working hours matching office work so their families would not find out the nature of work - or even that the Jamia girls acted on complaints of the residents and not of their own accord. Besides, he would also not pay any attention to the Cathouse affair in Islamabad where the Islamabad Police did exactly what Jamia Hafsa girls did ... and more.

tahmed saheb is extremely stubborn, and tunnel-visioned - but a nice guy to chat with nevertheless
