The headline caught my attention on CNN so I explored further:

Hundreds torch mosque in Indonesia

JAKARTA, Indonesia (CNN) -- Hundreds of people burned a mosque Monday in the West Java province of Indonesia, police said.

Around 300 people attacked the Al Furqon mosque about 1 a.m., damaging a nearby school, police said. The mosque belonged to the Ahmadiyah sect considered heretical by many in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation.

The attack happened after negotiations to remove a sign with the name of the sect, police said, and comes a week after religious scholars, government officials and prosecutors recommended the sect be outlawed for "deviating from Islamic principles," The Associated Press reported.

Many sect members had fled the area prior to the attack, AP said.

"We heard the attackers chanting 'burn, burn' and 'kill, kill,"' a sect member, Zaki Firdaus, told AP. "It was horrifying."

Firdaus said around 200 sect members had escaped the mosque before the attack. A sect spokesman, Syamsir Ali, told AP that efforts to ban Ahmadiyah beliefs had prompted an escalation of violence again adherents.

That's a bit simplistic :)

{"Why are Shia Mosques not burned in a similar fashion? I am quite disappointed with the lack of initaitve shown by Sipah Sahaba Pakistan and Al Qaeda Iraq. "}

Nothing like a bandar-pujaari paindoo bawarchi making a first-class asshole out of himself by trying to sow dissension between Shias and Sunnis. :D:D:D
Of course, if he learned to spell "initiative" he would still be a Paindoo, but a slightly less illiterate one.

Zee sahib,

I guess the main difference between Shias and Sunnis is the political difference of who shud succeed the Prophet as the leader of the Momins.

Shias say it shud be Ali and his descendants, Sunnis the accepted order of Caliphs, the four rightly guided Caliphs and then the rest.

Right?

Regards

Stuka, you know who the real Shia on Chowk is? IamNadia. She's a Shia. The only one. And I'm I'm a great admirer of her even though she abuses Suhaba-e-Karam and even though I fucked her through and proper over this and kicked her out of UP so she was scared to return and started writing some iLogs abusing me. But she's a Muslim. Differences yes, but a Muslim.

Post by Eklavya,

As you have been always kind to acknowledge, I'm a person of 'Faith'.

Allah has promised to protect Islam and Qur'an, and I believe that. When I stand before Allah, when my sins and my good will be weighed, I will say I assisted Your word. And that will be enough.

Post by stuka,

Stuka, well honestly; One, I do not think Salim is a Shia. And; Two, Shias are great Muslims. No Muslim will burn Shia mosques.

You see, the difference is over the spiritual and the temporal between Shia/Sunni. It's a huge difference, and one which hasn't been resolved, but I do believe the Shia have a very strong point to make.

I think Shia sacrifices are far more than Sunni sacrifices in the path of Islam, and this is a Sunni saying this.

zeemax: Why are Shia Mosques not burned in a similar fashion? I am quite disappointed with the lack of initaitve shown by Sipah Sahaba Pakistan and Al Qaeda Iraq. *-) I used to consider Shias Muslim until I saw the abuse given to companions of the Prophet (PBUH) by this Shia blasphemer Salim Chuhan. I think Salim Chuhan's behavior on Chowk confirms the contempt the Shia have for the Prophet's (PBUH) companions. All Shia should be considered Takfiri. (T)

Not yet, zee, but you can't underestimate the appeal of nomanism to nonMuslims. They would love to believe that nomanism is the 'real' Islam (and hence to be promoted - which nonMuslim man would not want nomanis of the world become available to them), and what you and salim bro and echodada and many other present is false Islam.

Post by Eklavya,

The unnatural part was in how mirzaism got spread among the believers in the first place.

Asra Nomanism has its followers too. :D What's so surprising about that? But Mirzaeeism had and still has massive support of the British ... don't think Nomani has that (yet?).

"until I learned about their beliefs..."

salimbro, this is the bane of those of us who would like to be liberals if we could. We support things, sometimes strongly, without knowing what they actually represent and stand for. It's your wisdom that you accepted reality when you saw it. A vast majority refuses to do that, preferring to stretch interpretations until they break on their own obstinate faces.

-------------------

Thanks zee. There were also some similar reports from Bangladesh.

These are natural developments. The unnatural part was in how mirzaism got spread among the believers in the first place.

{"and people blame ZAB and the JI for the Ahmadiya ban in Pakistan. Looks like Indonesians are thinking on similar lines."}

Zeemux,
While I believe in the freedom of religion, I also believe that hypocrites and charlatans should not be allowed to infringe on the beliefs and sensitivities of others. I always supported the right of Mirzaaees to be called Muslim, until I learned about their beliefs from the Mirzaaees on Chowk. Apparently, their "religion" is based on profanity against the Holy Prophet (PBUH), ridiculing Islam, and allying themselves with the enemas of Islam. They go among innocent and naive people and proclaims that they are a forward-thinking lot of modern Muslims. When the innocent people find out about this treachery, their anger is certainly displayed in such a manner as burning the Ahmadiyya houses of ill repute.

majumdar,

After the banning in Pakistan, many of the Ahmadiya sect moved to Britain and Africa, and started missionary activities. This may have been one of their Far-East centers.

I thought Mirzaees were to be found only in Pak and in NYC. I was mistaken. :o:o:o
