where is the nuke deal now?

Topic started by HP on May 8, 2008 1:45:34 pm

The pride of Indian diplomacy and the greatest symbol of the US-India friendship, appears going down the drain pretty fast.

Perhaps two years ago, I mentioned that it is not going to happen. Every ghati his mother and sisters and the other low caste from Kania Kumari to Ras kumari to meena Kumari or wherever the fuck they are from, jumped on me for saying that.

Now I guess they are going to jump on me again for telling them, I told ya so!

(is it too early for me to gloat? Maybe I should ask for an update from the State dept first!)

HP sain,

More importantly. Is the scuppering of the deal good or bad for India?

Regards

It is beyond pathetic to see this braying ass Hocus-Pocus try to gloat over the current state of the Indo-US nuke deal. There are many possible explanations for what the Bush administration originally intended and hoped to achieve when they originally proposed the deal. Perhaps the substance of the deal was mangled beyond recognition when the US Congress and assorted entrenched interests got into the act. Or perhaps a development of this kind was intended all along. Without access to what went on beyond closed doors one will never know.

But be that as it may, the following is the dominant reality: there is no shortage players who want to control India's future path – whether by limiting and retarding her growth, or by trying to get a piece of the action - and will go to considerable lengths to do so. Where nuclear issues are concerned, those in the US who need to know, do know that India has non-trivial indigenously developed capabilities, whether on the civilian side (fast breeders and advanced thorium reactors) or on the military side, and that these technologies are at present completely outside the control of any outside powers. Hence the desperate attempts to force the opening up of these technologies to the West and to limit India's future options. The same can be said of many other technologies that India has developed.

Pakistan by contrast has essentially no indigenous technical capability of its own – it is nothing but a client of the Chinese and will get what the latter will dole out. Pakistan's attempts to angle for a similar deal were curtly slapped down.

Pakistanis trying to extract some mileage from the knotted state of the deal are therefore little more than howling jackals. Apart from it's value as a proxy for others and as an all-round nuisance, Pakistan is irrelevant. At the end of the day, India counts for a great deal, Pakistan does not.
