Salim, I don't have time to discuss but I don't want to carry a wrong impression.

First of all, the first thing to know about "hinduism" is that it has no dogmas, so their believing in any is a non-issue. Secondly, these "modern" hindus are practising much more religiosity in the form of what you might call jahil rituals, although many of them are also interested in the higher philosophical thoughts associated with indic faiths. Which is fine because, according to me, picking and choosing is the essence of hinduism, not only for the upper castes or the rich but for everyone. Of course, a Ph.D is Physics is not likely to choose the same aspects as a poor vilage brahmin or dalit.
